Rochelle Anglo
The instrument
The Rochelle is a 30 key C/G Anglo concertina, designed by the Concertina Connection Inc.
It has the Wheatstone/Lachenal keyboard layout and rake, which is by far the most popular anglo keyboard layout. The first 2 rows are tuned in the keys of G and C major, and the 3rd row contains doubled notes and accidentals. Each button on an anglo concertina plays a different note on pull and push.
The Rochelle is easy to learn and perfect for traditional Irish music and folk tunes. Because of its small size it is very portable, and it blends perfectly with other instruments.
The anglo concertina is "mostly" chromatic. However, because of the diatonic layout, playing in keys other than the most common keys and modes is problematic.
This limits access to music with more complex harmonies like Jazz, or music in keys with more "sharps and flats".
Althought the Rochelle has been developed especially for beginning players on the Anglo concertina, the instrument is perfectly capable of meeting the requirements of intermediate players.

Tutor book
The Rochelle comes with an easy to understand 39 page tutor book, especially written for this instrument with songs and melodies from around the world. It will teach the basics of playing concertina, music notation, rhythm, and music theory. The tutor is suitable for both self study and for use in formal lessons, e.g. music schools or private instruction.
